responsive web design is becoming increasinglyimportant in today’s world. the rising use of mobile devices and accessibility issuesmeans designers must be conscientious in making websites that flow easily between phone, tablet,and desktop screens. luckily, creating responsive web design isfairly easy to do with the latest version of adobe dreamweaver, creative cloud. themajor difference between standard designing and responsive designing is in the initialsetup of the document, which we will briefly walk through here.once you’ve opened dreamweaver, go to file, and then new.in the dialog box that pops up, select “fluid grid (legacy)” under the document type.you can see it brings up the default page

width for three different devices: mobile,tablet, and desktop. these defaults are fine for most sites.click on “create with bootstrap” here at the top. bootstrap is a css, html, andjavascript framework that has built-in components made especially for responsive web design,which simplifies fluid layouts within the coding itself.click “create new” under bootstrap css, or choose “use existing” if you’ve alreadycreated a css file you want to use. if you choose the “create new” option, you cancustomize columns, the gutter, and screen sizes for small, medium, and large, but these defaults should be fine, too. click “create.”when your new document appears, you’ll see

some filler text and container placeholderson the page. in split view you can see the page’s code on the bottom and the live viewabove. you can switch views up here to either code, split, or live, but we’ll stick withlive. the initial page that opens gives you sometips on how to adjust column sizes and add certain features. for most content, you candrag it from the insert panel here on the right and drop it into the page. to edit the text within a container, you can triple click until the orange outline appears,and then begin typing. you’ll notice you can see the window sizeon the bottom right. this is the easiest way to switch between device sizes while you’redesigning. right now it’s set to full size,

but you can choose from a range of devices,from mobile phones to tablets. you can also drag the scrubber on the window itself tochange sizes. most changes you make while on one screen size will not apply to the others, because bootstrap automatically alters the code toadjust according to size. so if you change one column’s width while on mobile, forinstance, the same column will stay in place when you switch to tablet or desktop, as youcan see here. so those are the basics in creating responsiveweb design, which as you can see is pretty straightforward with dreamweaver cc and bootstrap.
